A villain, then a hero.

“Somewhere, Persephone is kissing Hades;
with raspberries plastered all around her mouth and
Hades laughs because it looks like blood.
His heart is so full that it’s almost cruelty, as he touches his lips to her lips, and winds his arms around her waist. It is winter,
and he is happy to hold her.
“You are beautiful,” he tells her and she tells him
“You are too.”
Somewhere, someone is playing a bouquet of flowers on a grave
as if that could beckon her back. The offering withers before she returns.  

In spring she kisses bare headstones as she whispers, “If only the living weren’t so in love with the dead.””
